| Basically some background on some of the more
important characters in the story, though minor characters that end up
playing significant parts may be described as they arise in my
head. The Goddess Also known as Izel, the Goddess is responsible for the creation of sentient life as it is known on Ki’aa. A spiritual being exiled to the surface from her original higher plane, her ‘crime’ was the assertion that beings should have their own willpower without intervention from higher powers. She decided to try her theory and see if it was indeed the right choice, and thus the native species of feline was created. Over time, this species evolved into its present bladed form, and other life began to migrate to the planet. There were many that revered the one that gave them the gift of life, but also over time, belief began to slip, and the great temples once built in her name began to crumble… Bludklaw When depravity amongst the inhabitants of Ki’aa had peaked and belief in Izel dropped to distressingly low levels, the Goddess feared that the worst had happened; that her children had abandoned her with their new ability to choose and think for themselves. She decided to give them one more chance, assuming a pseudo-mortal form to see if things were really as bad as they seemed. Having taken a mortal husband as her own, and come to terms with the degradation surrounding her, she had decided that she could live with things as long as her newfound happiness was with her. When that was taken from her, the Goddess became a Demoness, her soul rent apart by the loss. Thus, she created the Nacropsir Fayith, translated from the old tongue as ‘demon chaos’; vile agents of her destructive will and the living punishment of the native species she had created. Bludklaw was the first of her dark children, the first of the race to taste slaughter in its pure form. For a time, they were mindless killers, but even in her fall, Izel could not bring herself to deprive her creations of their ability to choose, at least in limited capacity. It was then that they became cold assassins that drew sustenance from the suffering of their appointed victims. Isila Karsthurten The first and so far only hybrid of Fayith and Ki’aa Feline, she has lost the blades and split tail of her mother’s people to gain the strength and bloodlust of her father’s. Eventually, most of the Fayith had died from disease, the rare slaying by one of Ki’aa’s other inhabitants, or infighting. However, their race was prepared for such contingencies, and Bludklaw, the last remaining Fayith, began to prepare for the trading ceremony (see Fayith culture); his first task was to locate a soul strong enough to trade for a significant portion from the other side. He thus spawned a daughter, who has since become the biggest thorn in his side. Her first eight years were spent with her mother, Nidae, but then left; after two years of wandering and learning, she encountered Stribog, whereupon she began her fifteen year military career. Her large size, granted by her Faith heritage, allowed her to slip past usual age checks (the standard enlistment age being fifteen). Nidae Formerly a prostitute, but since her run-in with Bludklaw and the birth of her daughter, Isila, her attitude has shifted dramatically. As a ‘gift’ to her for mothering his child, Bludklaw made Nidae the first recipient of Fayith blood; a process that has rather adverse effects in the form of an acquired blood hunger (along with others, though she was spared from these effects as part of the deal). At the same time, she also became the single greatest repository of information on Fayith lore besides Bludklaw himself and the Goddess. Given her already ravenous thirst for knowledge in general, she’s somewhat of a historian, though more of a cheshire cat than one might think at first. Stribog One of the off-world immigrants to Ki'aa, Stribog is one of the few that still observes the ancient beliefs and customs towards the Goddess; he became fascinated by the original culture after he began to learn about it. Being an equine, he was a natural candidate for military service, and quickly climbed his way to being a general of the Ki'aa Global Military. He is known to regularly visit old temples out of curiosity and religious fervor, and it was during one of these visits that he encountered Isila, ushering in her somewhat short-lived military career. |
